Photography was known in ancient times where camera obscuras were used to form images on walls in darkened rooms. Photography has changed over the years and still improving with technology today. In 1685, Johann Zahn built the first camera that was small and portable enough to be practical for photography. He made a camera obscura that was 23 inches long with the use of mirrors and lenses to erect, enlarge and focus the image. He also designed several portable camera obscuras.
